The prestigious Australasian Croupier Championships were held this week at Wrest Point’s Boardwalk Gallery.
Croupiers from Singapore, Vanuatu, New Zealand and all states of Australia competed for the title. Judges scored dealing technique and customer service as the croupiers dealt two of the three competition games: Blackjack, Roulette and Baccarat.
Regional selections were held to determine 23 of Asia Pacific’s finest croupiers, who travelled to the finals in Hobart. Tasmania was represented by Mel Musulin and Mario Milan from Wrest Point and Helene McKenzie from Country Club Tasmania.
Wrest Point was offered the opportunity to host the event, following employee Shelley Rogers’ championship success at last year’s event at Star City Sydney.
“It’s fantastic to host the championships in Hobart, and I’ve taken on the role as Announcer this year which means I get to observe the competition,” Ms Rogers said.
“Being a good croupier takes more skill than first meets the eye.
“It’s important to be attentive to guests and maintain eye contact with positive body language and friendly attitude.
“At the same time, your technical skills like chip work and dealing skills need to be impeccable,” she said.
Prizes were awarded to the Overall Winner, Best Guest Service, Best Blackjack, Best Roulette and Best Baccarat.
